The streets were turned a shade of blue on Saturday as volunteers from Sidmouth Hospiscare took to the town to raise more than £1,200.

The charity’s ‘blue day’ saw businesses including Coles, the Hair Loft and Paper Moon show their support in the week running up to the annual fundraiser by decorating their windows in a blue theme.

Volunteers spent their Saturday taking part in collections around the town, while street singer Mervyn Gratton performed a repertoire of classic songs from the ’60s.

Lisa Craig, from Sidmouth Hospiscare, said a total of £1,239 had been raised on the day.

“It went brilliantly - we topped last year’s target, the weather was kind and Sidmouth residents and visitors were very friendly and generous,” she added. “Thank you to all our volunteers who gave up their time.”
