IN aid of the fund of Blackborough Wayfarers Home a Variety Entertainment was given at the Manor Hall on Thursday, when a large audience thoroughly enjoyed the varied programme provided. Much of the enjoyment of the evening was undoubtedly due to the fact that the majority of the audience were renewing acquaintance with old Sidmouth friends-artists who many times past have given many memorable evening's entertainment at the Manor Hall for various charitable and sporting organisations in our valley.

MR Ronald Horsley, a motor-cyclist, of Sidmouth, met with a nasty accident on the Esplanade about one o'clock on Sunday. He was riding a bicycle and came into collision with a car near the Royal York Hotel, and sustained a compound fracture of the leg. Help was speedily at hand, and the unfortunate young man was conveyed to the Cottage Hospital in the motor ambulance.

MR. A. R. Franklin, Secretary of the Sidmouth Carnival Committee was one of the 30 members from 15 Carnival organisations in Devon extending from Sidmouth to Plymouth present at a meeting in Paignton last Saturday afternoon at which the South Devon Association of Carnivals was formed.

A MOST enjoyable Song Recital was recently given by Madame Regina Klemperer at West Bank School, Sidmouth. Madame Klemperer sang songs of many lands, which included those from France, America, Switzerland, Italy, England and Russia. Her mastery of all these languages was remarkable, and with her very illuminating introductory remarks she really made her audience see the characteristics of each song, and brought them into the atmosphere of the country.

STAR billing for Sidmouth on B.B.C. '84 programme has brought an unprecedented wave of interest in the town as a prospective holiday destination. John Carter's report on his stay in a Character Cottage at Harpford and his travels around East Devon whetted the appetites of many would-be holidaymakers watching the Sunday evening programme.

SIDMOUTH is a town infested with drugs, it was claimed at a meeting at Exmouth this week aimed at making the public aware of the extent of the problem in East Devon. And Mr. James Bell, the man who organised the meeting and is currently leading a crusade to cleanse the area of drugs is hoping a similar meeting will now be held in Sidmouth.
