A BID to re-vamp parts of a 93-year-old listed Sidmouth building got the backing of town planners.

Owners of the Old Toll House in Salcombe Road want to carry out repairs and alterations to its roof and chimneys, replace rainwater goods and install a boiler flue. Sidmouth Town Council Planning Committee members voiced support for the plans last week.

“It’s a lovely little building, I congratulate them on doing the best they can with it,” said Councillor David Barratt.

Cllr Sylvia Carr added: “This building was here before I was born, whatever they can do to keep it and improve it I’m all in favour.”

East Devon District Council will take town councillors’ views into account when it decides the fate of plans.
