Support SiB’s campaign to showcase Sidmouth

Sidmouth in Bloom (SiB) needs to raise £2,500 to represent the town in front of 100,000 people – and they are appealing for support from Herald readers.
The group has been invited to the Gardeners’ World Live expo at Birmingham’s NEC arena, and their display could be seen by millions on the BBC.
They also need to raise £10,000 for their planters in the town so they can compete in this year’s South West in Bloom competition.
Speaking of the Gardeners’ World Live show, SiB treasurer Peter Endersby said: “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and a great chance to showcase Sidmouth’s floral heritage. The organisers reckon 100,000 people will pass by the stand. We’ve got to go for these things.”
SiB has already had support from the Sid Vale Association’s Keith Owen Fund, Sidmouth Town Council and some businesses, but the new challenge means there is still a funding gap.
They will be at the NEC from June 16 to 19 with an underwater-themed display, using 3D planters from the Three Cornered Plot. Each weighs half-a-tonne, so the group faces a logistical challenge just getting there.
This is all on top of the displays the volunteers put together every year that saw Sidmouth take home gold at South West in Bloom – it is now competing in the ‘champion of champions’ class.
If anyone can support either or both appeal, then singles or multiples of £25 will be welcome. Anyone interested can contact Peter on 01395 578081 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Supporters will be acknowledged on the BBC display and town features.
