FOUL-MOUTHED salesmen were given a ticking off when their bad behaviour saw Sidmouth residents call the police.
Householders have been praised for alerting officers to the abusive door-to-door operatives flogging kitchen goods on Saturday, May 26.
Sergeant Andy Turner said two salesmen, from the Midlands area, used insulting language and swore when would-be customers rejected their patter and refused to purchase items. Police subsequently located and arrested the males before issuing them advice.
Sgt Turner said: “We had six calls that evening, from a small area, in a short space of time. I’d like to thank people who did ring us.”
He advised residents: “Don’t buy from the doorstep – use reputable local companies. If there is any doubt about the validity of the caller, contact police.”
