The Travelling into History season continues at Sidmouth’s Kennaway House this Tuesday (February 21), with a talk by Ffiona Eaves on Roman amphitheatres.

“When we look at these amazing structures, we may wonder how they developed, what they can tell us about life in the Roman world, and why there were people prepared to sponsor both the buildings and the ‘games’ that they housed,” said Ffiona.

“Most people find the pleasure greater when they can look at the buildings or art, (or, in my case, ruins) with some understanding.

“I’m choosing themes from the Roman Empire, as I’ve been exploring archaeological sites across Europe for a long time, while Sarah Obermuller-Bennett looks more closely at the treasures you can find in London.”

‘Roman Amphitheatres - What and How?’ starts at 2.30pm on Tuesday, February 21, at Kennaway House (01395 515551). Doors open at 2pm. Tickets are £7.
