Tango joins the big boys for Sidmouth Carnival

IT'S all aboard the Horror Express for Sidmouth Tango Carnival Club's biggest ever float at Sidmouth Carnival tomorrow (Saturday).

Tango has bought the float from the now folded Bridport DT6 club and with the generator unit its team has built, makes its entry a whopping 90-foot long more than double the previous 40-foot float.

Captain, Stuart Hughes, said the number of children performing on the float was up from eight to 15.

"To compete with the bigger entries we decided we either stood still and carry on with what we did or get bigger.

"We decided it was time to get bigger and give them a run for their money."

Both Horror Express and Sid Vale Carnival Club's Mickey's Express won their class at Seaton carnival last weekend and Sid Vale was best overall.

"The two biggest floats on the circuit are from Sidmouth," said Mr Hughes, who will enter the Tango float in Somerset circuit's larger carnivals.

With the children dressed as vampires, werewolves, ghosts, bats and bugs and finishing touches, such as smoke coming from the train's wheels, Mr Hughes thinks crowds at Sidmouth carnival will "be pleasantly surprised" at Tango's entry.

"A lot of hard work has been put in by people concerned and we have a good team on board now."

He said the float was also environmentally-friendly with a "roof-full" of low energy light bulbs.

"We always try to beat Sid Vale, there is friendly rivalry between us," he added.
