A grant to support Ottery St Mary’s famous tar barrels has been given the green light by councillors.
£2,500 of town funds will be provided to the Carnival Committee to help with the cost of running the event which attracted some 12,000 visitors on November 5.
Mayor Glyn Dobson said the grant, which would be the largest ever approved by the town, had been agreed by members of the finance committe but would need to be rubber stamped at December’s full council meeting.
“It’s a fantastic event and I think it is something we should be supporting,” he added.
