BONFIRE night proved a flaming success in Ottery on Wednesday as around 10,000 people descended on the town to dodge burning barrels.

Crowds cheered, ducked and dived as the traditional Tar Barrels night went ahead in good spirits, despite a difficult week.

A freak storm followed by a media frenzy has seen Ottery and its biggest week of the year as the centre of attention in the region all week.

Crowds may have swollen as a result, but the world-famous event also acted as a welcome night of fun for hard-hit residents.
