Temple Street has now fully reopened following works to repair a gas pipe.
Wales & West Utilities sent out a team of engineers on Friday following reports of a gas leak.
Devon County Council agreed to close the road at the junction with Peaslands Road so work could be carried out.
Jason Gale, Wales & West Utilities operational manager for Sidmouth, said: “We have now repaired the leak and the road has been fully reopened.
“We know this work was disruptive, but it was important that we repaired the leak as safely and as quickly as possible to keep gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area.”
