Devon County Council (DCC) completed its drainage improvements works in Temple Street in Sidmouth three days early.

The road had been closed from Ascerton Road to Sid Park Road since Monday, January 18, and was due to finish on Monday.

Workman finished installing new drainage pipes and connections, replaced the old brick gullies and upgraded gulley covers and frame ahead of schedule on Thursday, February 25.

The scheme also involved the reconstruction and resurfacing of the road and footway.

Councillor Stuart Hughes, local member for Sidmouth and Sidford and DCC Cabinet member for highway management, said: “I’m absolutely delighted that the roadworks have been completed three days early and within budget.

“The only thing left to do is for the anti-skid surface on the zebra crossing and studs to be added, and that will happen when the weather improves.

“These works will help solve the problem of water ponding on the road which was a nuisance to pedestrians.”
