TESCO has given up on its bid to build an Ottery outlet, ending the town’s long-running store wars saga. The firm withdrew an appeal against the decision that saw blueprints for the town’s derelict factory site refused planning permission- just weeks after lodging it. Planning chiefs hadn’t ruled out the possibility of Ottery ending up with both a Sainsbury’s and a Tesco when the appeal was revealed in June. The turnaround has ended Tesco’s intent to transform part of the factory site, and left questions over the land’s long-term future.
