Things are cooking in Sidmouth as organisers of the annual hot cross bun distribution have all the ingredients in the mix for another successful event.

Collecting tins are in place in the town to ensure the charming and age-old tradition of distributing Easter eggs, buns and oranges to local children continues to thrive.

It is believed the venture began sometime before the start of the Second World War during a bakers’ strike, and has been maintained as a very popular, and tasty, custom.

The distribution of the goodies to youngsters under the age of 12 will take place on Good Friday morning on March 29, and the secretary of the organising committee, Tony Perram, hopes enthusiasm for hot cross buns remains strong.

“It is important that charming little events such as the hot cross bun distribution are maintained,” he said.
