THE King's School was celebrating a fantastic fortnight of results yesterday as this year's GCSE pupils proved an equal success to last week's A level achievers.

Years of hard work and a tense summer of waiting were rewarded as 74 per cent of grades achieved were at A* to C level, with almost a quarter of marks at A* or A standard. Nearly a fifth of students bagged five or more A grades.

Chris Davies, 16, notched up six A*'s and four A grades and is now looking forward to studying chemistry, biology, maths and french as a sixth former in September.

He said: "I'm ecstatic. It's been a nervous week, I woke up really early this morning and couldn't stop thinking about the results. I want to be a doctor and

I'm looking forward to coming back next term and working towards that."

Grace McKay, 16, celebrated eight A*'s and two A's and is also looking forward to the sixth form where she will study chemistry, biology, PE and geography.

She said: "I'm still in shock but I'm happy, a lot of hard work has gone into this. The teachers have been great and the stress never got to such a level because we had them."

Headteacher Faith Jarrett said she was delighted with the results and is content to see pupils going on to further study or taking up employment.

She added: " It not just about getting A's and A*'s, if you can achieve your absolute best then you can't ask for anything more. Ninety eight per cent of students gained five or more GCSEs, its just reward for all the hard work, commitment and determination.

Head of year 11 Chris Calderwood said: " The overall results are fantastic but on an individual level there are so many that were struggling here, and needed a lot of support, and they came through and got good results. I'm really pleased, not just for those pupils who got all the A*'s and A's but also the ones who just got the grades they needed."

Chair of Governors Robin Mitchell said: "These results don't just happen by accident, they are brought about by careful planning and very hard work, we offer thanks and congratulations all round.
