POLICE have urged Sidmouth residents and visitors not to leave valuables in their cars after criminals made of with two handbags last Thursday, February 24.

Cash and bank cards were among items thieves fled with after targeting a grey Peugeot 406 parked at the Donkey Sanctuary between 11am and 12noon.

The car was left secure but offenders forced open the driver’s side door and proceeded to search the vehicle for valuables. Two purses were taken from the glove box. Victims were visiting the area for the day.

A Sidmouth police spokesperson said: “Spring is now coming and the holiday season is approaching. Unfortunately there will be criminals about targeting vehicles in car parks. I would urge everyone not to leave any valuables in unattended vehicles. Put them in a rucksack and take them with you.”
