Under-threat bus services in Sidmouth and Ottery St Mary could receive a reprieve under revised proposals to be considered by county chiefs tomorrow (Wednesday).

Devon County Council (DCC) had originally planned to remove the Otterton stop from the 157 service, between Sidmouth and Exmouth, and cancel the 381 Ottery town service altogether.

But after a 12-week public consultation, in which more than 2,600 people responded, the authority has amended its plans, while still achieving its aim of saving £1.7million.

The revised proposals, due to be discussed by DCC leaders tomorrow, include no change to the 157 route, and an interim solution for the 381 service, which would see it operate for two days a week.

Councillor Stuart Hughes, DCC’s highways chief, said: “As promised, we have had a good look through all of the comments received and taken everything into account.”
