Emergency services were called at around 3.35pm today (Tuesday) to reports of a crash involving two vehicles on the A3052 near Woodbury.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said four engines were sent to the scene where two cars had been involved in a road traffic collision.

He added that two women were left trapped in two cars and were freed by firefighters.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokeswoman said a woman in her 50s had been taken to Derriford Hospital, in Plymouth, by air ambulance and that localised road closures had been put in place.

Two others were taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

An ambulance spokeswoman said they could not release details of the injuries sustained at this time, but they are believed to be serious.

Drivers have been asked to use an alternative route if possible.
