SECURITY is to be tightened at Ottery St Mary and Sidmouth hospitals following cases of aggressive behaviour, vandalism and a series of thefts across the county.

Managers are working with police and the NHS security service at 21 community hospitals across Devon.

Sidmouth was subjected to anti-social incidents in June, involving a group of youths trespassing in the hospital grounds.

At the time it was reported a nurse had been upset to see some kicking a seagull, while patients were aware of rowdy and inappropriate behaviour.

During NHS Security Awareness Month in November, the NHS will repeat its message that the service will not tolerate aggressive behaviour towards staff.
