DEVASTATED Tipton Tennis Club will be allowed to submit a late grant application to Ottery town council following flooding damage.

DEVASTATED Tipton Tennis Club will be allowed to submit a late grant application to Ottery town council following flooding damage.

Club members made the appeal at a meeting last Monday after the deadline for local groups wanting money from the council passed the day the village woke up to find itself under water.

Four feet of water left silt on courts which has made them dangerously slippery, brought fencing down and buckled main stanchions.

While the club has amassed £8,000 in reserves over the years, it estimates around £30,000 will be needed to remedy the problems. To build two new courts at a new site will cost around £70,000.

While councillors questioned whether it would be wise to keep the courts where they are, they saw no problem in accepting a late application.
