An East Devon Sea Cadet has been awarded a top regional honour and will be accompanying the Queen’s representative in the county.

Leading Cadet Charlotte Gallagher, of Training Ship Exmouth, was awarded with the Lord Lieutenant of Devon’s Cadet Badge of Office.

The Lord Lieutenant David Fursdon is the Queen’s representative in Devon and the award is highly prized.

Former Exmouth Community College pupil Charlotte attended the ceremony in Tiverton, despite being unwell at the time, showing her dedication and commitment to the role from the start.

The 17-year-old will attend high profile events during the next 12 months, accompanying the Lord Lieutenant and his deputy, having already attended the Remembrance service in Plymouth.

Charlotte was one of the cadets who handed over a wreath to the VIPs to be laid on the memorial.

She said: “I felt very surprised and overwhelmed when I found out that I had been selected to be the Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet.

“It is a great honour to represent the Sea Cadets at this level.

“I am looking forward to attending more events alongside the Lord Lieutenant and his deputy over the next year.”
