Sidmouth is among the fastest-growing seaside towns in the UK according to figures from a recent national survey.

British seaside towns are seeing a huge visitor boom as the number of people holidaying abroad continues to fall.

Brits are expected to spend £9 billion at the beach this summer, a healthy return on the £100 million worth of recent public investment in our seaside towns.

A spokesman from Sidmouth tourist information centre said Sidmouth had seen a busy summer this year.

Seaside towns have had 21 per cent more UK visitors staying overnight this summer, and spending 23 per cent more cash, according to the survey by VisitEngland.

James Sharp, president of Sidmouth and district hospitality association said: “It is always pleasing to see that people are choosing to holiday in the UK, and especially Sidmouth.”

“Everything the town council and local businesses do to support the town is fantastic, particularly Sidmouth in Bloom, who do a wonderful job keeping the town looking as attractive as possible through the summer months.”
