JUST 24 hours after appealing for help to provide a Shelter Box for victims of the Burma cyclone disaster, Sidmouth Town Council's clerk is well on the way to funding two.
Trina Jarrett emailed all those in her address box this week asking for donations to sponsor a Rotary life-saving Shelter Box which contains a 10-person tent, sleeping bags, bedding, cooking utensils and other aid.
She wrote: "In the light of the disastrous news, brought home by the fact that the loss of life practically equates to the population of Sidmouth and is set to increase, I contacted Rotary and said that I hoped to sponsor a Shelter Box.
"If 100 people give £5 then we shall have enough to buy a Box for Burma and I have already started collecting names and donations.
"If you are able to help in any way towards this it would be much appreciated."
Yesterday (Thursday) she said: "I am so excited. In 24 hours I managed to raise the money for one box and am now progressing towards another."
If you would like to make a contribution to a Shelter Box please contact the Shelterbox Trust direct at Unit 1a Water Ma Trout, Helston, Cornwall, TR13 OLW, said Sidmouth Rotary president Ray Davies.
