DISRUPTION was caused to Sidmouth residents this week when snow flurries and sub-zero temperatures caused chaos on the roads.

Devon County Highways had three times as many staff on duty and gritters were out in force overnight on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Emergency services, preparing for the coldest winter since 1996-7, warned people not to travel unless it was absolutely necessary but several drivers did not escape the big freeze unharmed.
