A NEW tree has been added to Market Place thanks to Sidmouth Arboretum.
The young Paul’s Scarlet replaces an ailing silver birch and will partner an existing double pink hawthorn at the town centre spot.
Sidmouth Town Council chairman John Hollick and Councillor John Dyson, treasurer of the arboretum, were on hand to mark the occasion with Diana East last Tuesday.
They met to celebrate their continuing commitment to enhancing the environment, for the benefit of residents and visitors alike.
Cllr John Hollick emphasised his commitment to working with Sidmouth in Bloom and Sidmouth Arboretum – so that the efforts of these community groups combine to enhance the town environment.
The new hawthorn was planted by the district council’s parks department and with permission from the county council’s highways department.
“Our thanks to the fruit flower and veg stall holders in the Market Place who regularly water the trees in hot weather, at the same time as they care for their own plants for sale,” said Diana.
