Residents are being encouraged to get baking to help keep the county's airborne paramedics flying.

The Devon Air Ambulance Trust is looking for participants to get behind its ‘Bake Off For Take Off’ event, which will run during National Air Ambulance Week.

The week will run from Monday, September 19, to Sunday, September 25, with proceeds going towards the maintenance of its two air ambulances.

Bakers can hold cake sales or run a competition replicating the successful Great British Bake Off, which returned to BBC1 on August 24.

Caroline Creer, fundraising director of Devon Air Ambulance, said: “We’re asking all keen amateur cooks, and in fact those that have never cooked before to have a go and get baking.

“Maybe you could have a cake stall at your work place; selling them to staff or customers. Do you go to school or college; why not see if you could hold a cake sale at break time?

“If you are feeling competitive you could hold a bake off competition and ask someone to judge.”

Participants are also encouraged to share photos of their bakes on the air ambulance’s Twitter and Facebook page.

To sign up for the ‘bake off for take off’ visit www.daat.org/your-event and complete a form.

Participants can also sign up by emailing, fundraising@daat.org or ringing 01392 466666.
