UNLUCKY-in-love Sidmouth twins, rejected 14-weeks-in-a-row on a prime time ITV1 dating series, claim they were portrayed as “freaks” by programme producers.

Identical 21-year-olds Cat and Sam Wilkinson said being made to wear matching outfits and sport frizzy hairdos on Take Me Out was “soul destroying.”

The university students from Summerfield said they broke down in tears and were horrified when they saw how the programme was edited- claiming they were made to look boring and stupid.

“We were only ever put on the show to look like twinnie freaks,” said Cat.

‘The producers never wanted us to get a date. Standing there week after week was soul destroying.

“‘We had to stand next to each other with our hair made to look over-the-top frizzy and in these ridiculous clothes,” she added.

The twins say they have been ridiculed by viewers and on internet forums following their appearance.

“We came over as unintelligent fools. Most chats were edited out as if we had nothing to say,” Cat added.

“People called us ‘fat and fatter’ and ‘the ugly twins’,” she said. “We were just the novelty for viewers to pity.”

Up to six million people a week tuned in to the hit Saturday night show, hosted by Paddy McGuinness, in which 30 girls vie to be picked for a date.

Sam and Cat were rejected by 52 men as they went dateless for the entire series.

A Facebook group set up in support of the twins attracted more than 1,000 members while the series ran.

The girls told the Herald in January they had hoped appearing on Take Me Out would be a “once in a lifetime opportunity.”

An ITV spokesperson said: “It’s a shame the girls were unhappy, as our aim is definitely to get everyone a date.”
