TWO women were arrested following an alleged theft in Sidmouth on Monday. Police were called to Banwell Antiques on Old Fore Street at around 2pm after it was alleged the women took some wedding rings from a tray after distracting the shop assistant.
However they were challenged by the assistant prior to leaving the store and the rings were found on the shop floor.
The 40 and 26-year-old women, both Romanian internationals living in Birmingham, were later released without charge because of insufficient evidence.
A police spokesman said: "The alleged theft took place between 1.40pm and 2pm on Monday lunchtime. Police did arrest two women at the scene but there was not enough evidence to charge them."
