BUDDING young performers from two schools in the Sidmouth learning community will join with thousands more at a special music festival next month.

Pupils from Sidmouth Infants and Newton Poppleford Primary School will take part in this year's Mix - one of Britain's biggest school music festivals - at Westpoint Arena on June 23.

Now in its fifth year, the event, organised by Devon County Council's Music Service, bring together over 100 musical concerts, workshops and performances from every corner of the globe.

And to celebrate its fifth anniversary, pupils at the festival will aim to break the world record for the largest ukelele ensemble, with 1,000 children playing 'Wonderwall' at the same time. They will also be raising funds for Clic Sargent.

Councillor Andrea Davis, DCC's cabinet member for children and young people's services, said: "This event brings together a whole range of cultures, instruments, activities and of course children and young people, who have an absolutely fantastic day performing, taking part in workshops and seeing the superb range of professional musicians playing, as well as watching their peers on stage."

Workshops and performances include The Band of The Royal Corps of Signals; Bhangra group RSVP; Asere, a seven-piece Cuban band; and young bands, aiming to be the next Muse or Arctic Monkeys, will be showcasing their talent in front of a panel of music industry professionals.
