NEARLY two tonnes of mud and debris has been moved to a landfill sites since Ottery was battered by flooding devastation last year.

The on-going Devon County Council (DCC) clean-up bid, which has cost 130,000 to date, follows the widespread havoc caused by freak rain and hail storms on October 30.

A spokesman said more than 1,700 tonnes of mud, which was contaminated with litter and debris, has gone to landfill.

He added: "Wherever possible the soil and stones were put back on adjacent verges, hedge banks and land.

"However in places like Thorne Farm Way, considerable quantities of material were contaminated."

He said procedures were established over what material could be reused on verges and banks.

Scores of homeowners are still living in rented accommodation while repairs are carried out on their properties.
