AN AMAZING £551 has been raised for cancer charity FORCE, by raffling a stunning iced Christmas cake.

Made by Val Boyle of Tipton St John, who holds the London City and Guilds gold medal of excellence for sugar crafted flowers, she donated it to Masquerade amateur dramatics company from Newton Poppleford, to boost its fundraising for FORCE.

Ken Davis, from Masquerade, said: "A total of £300 was raised for Val's cake at Masquerade's Sausage and Mash shows at Woolbrook and Tipton St John in November.

"Then Val and her husband David took it to the FORCE Christmas bazaar held at the Guildhall on Saturday (December 13) and got the shoppers in Exeter to part with another £251."

This will go to the Exeter-based charity, which cares for sufferers and carers alike.

Val handed over the cake to Wendy and Geoffrey Outlaw from Metcombe, winners of the cake.

Ken said: "We understand that Mr and Mrs Outlaw will be donating the cake to The West of England Children's School and College for Children with little or no Sight before Christmas.

"Suppers and shows are not only for the raising of money for charity as patrons are encouraged to make up a party and have a good time, bringing their own wine."

Some 353 people did that this year and enabled Masquerade to present a cheque for about £3,000 to FORCE shortly.
