NAME GAME: Sidmouth town councillors welcomed a decision to name apartments, that will replace the Fortfield Hotel, as Sandtion - and their gardens after Annie Leigh Browne.

Civic leaders briefly discussed the subject at their full meeting this week. They had suggested Annie Leigh Browne Court as a title last month.

Councillor Graham Liverton missed those talks, but said on Monday night: “Well done. Had I been here I’d have suggested Folly’s Corner.”

MOUNTIES: Star attraction at this year’s Devon County Show is the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, who will perform their popular musical ride twice a day at the show - May 17-19 - held at Westpoint, Exeter. They were last in Devon 12 years ago.

Show secretary Ollie Allen said: “This is a real coup for the show. Devon is the only place they will appear in the UK apart from in HM The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Pageant.”
