POLICE are asking locals to be extra vigilant after thefts from farm buildings in the Colyton area.

PC Steve Speariett said there have been reports of men approaching farmers asking to buy scrap metal or sell batteries for them, followed by a break-in soon afterwards. He is asking for any such incidents to be reported to the police.

He said: “People need to be vigilant at all times, if they see any specialised 4x4s or vans that aren’t local near rural outbuildings then contact us. We rely on the public to inform us so we can build up a picture of these criminals and catch them.”
