COUNTY highways chiefs have offered to utilise the services of Vision Group for Sidmouth (VGS) volunteers to carry out a town traffic survey.
The Herald reported last week how VGS members were looking to undertake their own survey in the hope it could help in a future town traffic management plan.
Devon County Council’s (DCC) cabinet member for highways and transportation, Stuart Hughes, said yesterday the authority would be “happy” for group members to carry out the project on its behalf.
He said DCC would provide training for volunteers, but they could only monitor places the council had advised.
“We’re willing to use them if they’re willing to do something,” Mr Hughes told the Herald.
“I’m quite happy, as part of localism, that we can use the offer of resources to carry out this survey.”
He added that if the vision group went ahead with its own survey, DCC would still have carry out its own.
VGS chairman Robert Crick told the Herald as it went to press: “I’m very glad to hear this and will be in touch with Mr Hughes.”
