THE progress of the work of laying out the Sea View Estate as a public pleasure garden has now so far progressed that one is in a position to appreciate its impending possibilities. Frankly, although the expense of the scheme will be on the heavy side, we believe, ultimately, the action of the council in embarking on this somewhat ambitious project is likely to be substantially justified. There can be no shadow of doubt it is going to be a great asset to Sidmouth.

AT the Winter Garden on Tuesday evening, a most successful concert was given by the pupils of Miss E.A. Lewis to a large and appreciative audience. The concert opened with selections by bands composed of little players. An excellent rendition of 'A little Suite' was given by the violin class; whilst much interest and pleasure was aroused by the percussion band from the Connaught School.

THE men's branch of the Sidbury & District British Legion organised a social, carried out by their committee at the headquarters, Sidford, raised �3-10-0 towards the cost of their new standard. The programme was in the capable hands of Mr. A. Caswell and consisted of dancing, singing and community singing, and games. Mr. J. Harvey sang a number of songs and led the community singing.

AT the annual meeting of the Victoria Cottage Hospital, Sidmouth, Mr. E. C. Bird, chairman of committee, stated that plans for the proposed extension to the hospital were now ready and he thought that within a month the job could go out to tender. Mr Bird explained that the delay in making a start with the scheme was due to a combination of circumstances.

COMMUTERS travelling into Sidmouth from Ottery Sy. Mary could have their threatened Devon General bus link saved. That was the upshot of three meetings this week held to discuss how Devon County Council's intention to cut bus subsidies would hit local services.

POTENTIAL holidaymakers who are still writing for copies of Sidmouth's holiday guide will not be receiving the glossy brochures they are expecting...for supplies have run out. Instead, they are being sent printed lists of all the guide's advertisers, plus copies of the Hotels and Caterers' Association members who are listed in the guide.
