A severe weather warning for ice and snow has been issued for the South West by the MET Office.

The yellow severe warning, which means be aware, is in place from 10am tomorrow until 9pm.

Weather experts are warning that rain moving eastwards across the region may turn to snow in places.

The MET Office is suggesting that there is a small chance of snow settling with disruption to road rail and air services.

There could also be interruptions to power supplies although it is thought this is unlikely in the South West.

The MET Office also warned that there could be ‘associated’ heavy rain and strong winds and, as the skies clear tomorrow night, there is potential for ‘widespread’ ice to form on untreated surfaces.

Stagecoach South West has advised customers across the region to check service updates online before planning their journey.

A spokesman for the bus company said: “Weather forecasters have highlighted the possibility of wintry conditions over the next few days.

“Please be aware that snow or icy conditions are likely to affect services across our network, particularly our rural routes that operate via untreated roads.

“If the weather and road conditions permit we will do our best to operate all services, however the safety of our passengers and staff is the priority.

“Please check our service updates online and via twitter before planning your journey, in the event of bad weather, as delays will be likely.”
