THE New Year will herald the return of bridge classes in Sidmouth this week.

Enthusiasts of the card-game will all be back at the green baize tables at Sidmouth Rugby Club when classes resume on Wednesday, January 7

Sidmouth Bridge Club have taken up the reins to organise the weekly tuition sessions after the Local Education Authority called an end to many leisure classes in East Devon last year.

Tutor Ken Rowe, who has taught the game to hundreds of Sidmothians, said:

"The classes were such a success that three courses were running in Sidmouth during 2008. Anyone with a little knowledge can join the beginners and those with a little more experience can attend the improvers sessions.

"Bridge provides entertainment for a lot of people in Sidmouth and it's a great way of making new friends. Our aim is to enable people to have fun while learning the game in a relaxed environment."
