A Sidmouth butcher who loyally served the town’s residents for more than half a century has hung up his apron for the last time.
John Richards dedicated 52 years to Hayman’s Butchers, in Church Street, before choosing to retire.
The well-known 68-year-old, who waved farewell at the end of February, now plans to spend his time relaxing, gardening, walking and playing bowls.
When asked what he enjoyed most about his job, John said: “I used to enjoy the social side the most – I liked working with the team and the chatting with customers. It is bit strange to be retired and it was a tough decision but I am enjoying it.”
Stuart Hayman said: “John has been here for so many years and will be sadly missed.”
