WAR TALES: A West Country filmmaker has appealed for Sidmouth residents with memories of World War Two to contact him. Henry Buckton hopes to hear tales from those who lived through the war, especially when Devon was the most militarised county in the country. “This was particularly so just before D-Day when every town and village was bursting with American troops preparing to take part in the liberation of occupied Europe,” he said. Henry urged anyone with memories, photographs or other information, willing to be interviewed in the film, to write to him at PO Box 2770, Glastonbury, Somerset BA6 9XD, or email email@example.com.
VOLUNTEER PLEA: A la Ronde, the National Trust’s quirky 18th century, 16-sided, house near Exmouth, needs volunteers from February to November to help bring the place to life for visitors. To give prospective volunteers an insight into what’s involved, two open sessions are being held on Wednesday, January 18, 1.30-3 pm and Saturday, January 21, 10am to 11.30am.
