Public support has secured West Hill Primary School a £7,500 grant to spend on new security equipment.
The school received the most votes to win the prize from STANLEY Security, for schools with 300 pupils or less.
The security company had £20,000 to give away in its annual Together for Safer Schools programme.
Headteacher Cheryl Boulton thanked the community for its support to secure the funding.
She said: “Our budgets have become tighter and tighter and security products are not cheap to be upgraded.
“Everybody pulled together to be able to help us win. It is something for nothing, we do not get that these days in schools. To have £7,500 for nothing is amazing.”
Following a site visit, the school will be fitted with a new access control system which will operate five doors through a swipe system.
