Good causes in West Hill have bagged cash grants of up to £1,000 for community projects thanks to the parish council.

Residents were invited to join councillors for the village’s first-ever annual parish meeting last Monday in the village hall.

On the night, West Hill Primary School’s PTFA received the largest grant of £1,000 to upgrade its Mediterranean garden and forest school.

West Hill Junior Wasps received £750 to help purchase a set of junior-size goals; the preschool £620 for a new sandpit; and the village hall, Royal British Legion and short-mat bowling club each received £500 for their projects.

Councillor Margaret Hall, chairman of the council, gave a report of members’ first year in charge and their long-term aspirations, which include improving open spaces in the village.

Devon county councillor Claire Wright gave an update on her work on the health and adult care scrutiny committee and residents also met PCSO Jonathan Sims, who joined Ottery’s police team in March.
