West Hill Primary School were able to buy new books thanks to a £189 donation from a Waitrose charity scheme.

On Tuesday (November 20), West Hill Primary School Parent, Teachers and Friends Association were presented with a £189 cheque from supermarket giants Waitrose.

They received the cheque as part of the Waitrose Community Matters scheme which rewards good causes as people shop.

West Hill Primary School were part of the the September campaign alongside two other local schools and were delighted when they heard they had won £189.

The school has since spent the money on new reading books for reception and year 3 pupils.

Waitrose Community Matters allows shoppers to place a token in one of three good cause boxes at the end of their shop and the more tokens a cause gets, the bigger the donation they receive.

Every month, Waitrose donates £1,000 between the three causes and since its launch in 2008, the scheme has donated more than £30 million.
