Woman taken to hospital after car collides with house in Sidford

A woman was freed from a car by firefighters following a collision with a house in Sidford High Street yesterday (Monday). She was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital for treatment.

An elderly woman was taken to hospital after a car collided with a house in Sidford High Street.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 4.30pm yesterday (Monday).

Sidmouth firefighters freed the woman from the car by moving the vehicle with the occupant still inside.

An ambulance spokesman said the woman was taken by ambulance to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital for treatment.

A fire service spokesman said: “The elderly female was physically trapped with the driver’s door blocked by another vehicle. After a scene assessment and consultation with paramedics it was decided to move the car with the occupant still in it.”

“Once the car was free the occupant was able to exit the car and was taken to hospital in a land ambulance. A building surveyor was requested to assess the damage to the property.”

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman told the Herald: “Police were called at around 4.30pm today (July 3) to reports that a Nissan Saloon car had collided into a house on the High Street area of Sidmouth.

“Multiple fire engines at the scene as is ambulance and police. Reports of one woman trapped in the car who has since been freed. No reported injuries at this time.

“Car now clear of the house, no reported injuries inside the property.”
