Woolbrook Flower Show has been cancelled for the first time in more than 50 years.

The event’s committee suffered a huge blow after two members retired and another was taken ill.

The show, which was supposed to be held on August 23 at St Francis Church Hall, normally features around 600 exhibits from about 100 entrants. Organisers are hoping to bring the annual event back next August, but are appealing to anyone who would like to join their committee.

Liz Harris, the show’s director, said the team needs three people who will be available for the two days during the show and for two or three meet-ups a week in the run-up to the event. They will also need to be able to attend two or three evening meetings throughout the year to help plan the show.

Liz said: “Cancelling was something none of us wanted to do, but we couldn’t realistically put a show on with that few people.”
