Woolbrook Flower show was “outstanding”

ORGANISERS of this year’s Woolbrook Flower Show hailed another “outstanding” event.

The wet summer had a strange effect on the balance of the show - as some classes that have been thin in the past were full and vice versa.

The few dry days before and on the day of the show meant there were some beautiful cut flowers, said show director Bruce Harcourt.

The cookery had a record number of entries with 45 large cakes and a good number of entries in the other classes.

This year the handicraft section was extremely well supported not only in numbers but by the high quality of entries.

“On the weekend before the show the committee were worrying how they would spread the few entries out, but come the close of entries, it was how are we going to get so many on the show benches,” said Mr Harcourt.

Every class was well supported throughout the schedule. There was a large turnout for the viewing and the visitors were very impressed with the show.

Mr Harcourt said that the hard work that his dedicated committee puts in preparing for the show seems so worthwhile when the exhibitors put on such a great show.

He thanked exhibitors and committee for all their hard work.

“It was nice to see so many new exhibitors having a go and the helping hand given by the old hands to the new faces made for the happy and friendly show,” he added.
