A SCOOTER and BMX ‘jam’ aimed at forging links with hard-to-reach youngsters has been dubbed ‘an outstanding success’ by Sidmouth police.

Sergeant Andy Squires said Saturday’s scooter and BMX event at the Ham proved effective for engaging with a number of ‘at risk’ children and attracted more than 100 people.

It raised £150 for the scouts and spurred him on to plan another event, this time reaching out to families with a fun day at Stowford Community Centre over the summer.
