TWO Ottery youngsters are celebrating a wheelie great achievement.

Cerys Hiscocks, 10, and James Nancekivell, four, have bought a children’s wheelchair for the Ottery St Mary and District Help Scheme with the proceeds from a sponsored wheelchair push they did in October.

Both youngsters broke a leg each around the same time, and Cerys’s mum Toni came up with the idea for the event as it was so hard to find a child-sized chair in the area. The pair wheeled 2.5 miles across East Hill Strips, raising a total of 400.35. The chair cost 340 from Lindsey and Sons medical and surgical supplies in Exeter, and the rest was given to the Help Scheme as a donation toward running costs.

Toni said: “A huge thank you to everyone who sponsored Cerys and James and especially to Lindsey and Sons for such friendly and professional advice and supplying the chair.”

Before this, the scheme did not have a children’s wheelchair, or one with adjustable leg extensions, so this has broadened the range of equipment it can loan out. The chair is available now. For more information call (01404) 816700.
