The plan for the future of Ottery is out for public review and the council wants your view on it.

East Devon District Council’s (EDDC) draft ‘Local Plan’ went out for public consultation yesterday, which includes housing and industrial growth guidelines for the next 15 years.

The plan includes a recommendation for 400 new homes plus three hectares of employment land for the town, a figure which has been contested by Ottery Town Council.

It thinks its voice has not been heard in amongst the debate on the future of East Devon, so Councillor Mike Allen, chairman of the panel which drew up the document, has agreed to speak at Monday’s town council meeting.

He has said of the draft document: “Across East Devon as a whole, we will promote jobs and homes that people can afford, together with high quality public transport plus education and opportunities for young people.

“We will conserve and enhance our historic buildings, countryside and AONBs, and the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site.”

EDDC is sending out a leaflet to every home in the district inviting residents to log on to it’s website to see the full report or, if they don’t have internet access to view copies of the document in town halls and libraries across the district.

The latest public review into the ‘Local Plan’ will run through to the end of January, with feedback being used to fine tune the proposals for a revised version to go to a formal examination by the Government in 2012/13.
