ZIMBABWEAN stone sculpture has arrived at Marine House at Beer in time for a new exhibition launching tomorrow.
There will be exciting work from the world renowned Dominic Benhura and his contemporaries, with prices ranging from 95 to 5,000.
Mike Lambert, owner of the gallery, said: "Stone sculpture is the art form that most represents the people of Zimbabwe. The exuberance of the work, the variety of stone and the imagination and skill of the sculptors, have resulted in extraordinary critical acclaim internationally."
Born in 1968, Dominic Benhura has become one of Africa's greatest contributions to the world of contemporary art.
In Zimbabwe, he has become somewhat of a role model for young people, an inspiration for other sculptors, and his expansive sculpting studio is home to the finest young talent in the country.
He has won numerous awards for his work, and in Johannesburg in 2003 was delighted to be invited to meet Nelson Mandela, after which, one of his pieces, 'Swing Me Mama', was installed in the permanent collection at the Nelson Mandela Foundation in Johannesburg.
The exhibition, which runs until August 14, will launch tomorrow and the gallery will be open from 10am-5.30pm.
The work can be viewed at www.marinehouseatbeer.co.uk and it can be purchased now. For more information ring (01297) 625257.
