The film has recently been restored and released as a double DVD set.

Independent production company The Attic Room (producers Chris Riley, Duncan Copp and David Fairhead) formed a consortium with Molinare, bhp group and Sister to work on the project.

Chris Riley said: "We first tracked down the film's director Theo Kamecke when we were working on our last feature film "In the Shadow of the Moon". We couldn't believe it when he said he'd still got a 35mm print of the film, and since then we've been working with him to restore and re-release "Moonwalk" in time for this summer's anniversary. Without the generous support and help of our partners Molinare, Bhp group and Sister this project would not have happened. But now thanks to their commitment driving the project forward we have everything in place to successfully produce and release on DVD for the first time the director's cut of this historic movie".
