Pollack seem to be around in decent numbers at the moment, as discovered by Exmouth’s Alex Webb who fishes aboard 'Spot On' out of Brixham, skippered by Ross Parham.
They visit wrecks up to 30 miles offshore in the shipping lanes and found the fish eager to take their Sidewinder lures with pink and blue being the most successful colours.
From the shore, there is only one notable fish to report this week and that is a Spurdog weighing in at 12lbs 12oz, caught by Mark Bryce from an undisclosed mark with the successful bait being the underrated Garfish. Damion Fryer has been out and about with his lures on various rock marks, again finding the beautifully marked Ballan Wrasse.
Spring Ponds held a silvers only match with both ponds being used, Steve Barrell came out top angler with a bag weight of 22lbs, Jason Fay took second spot with 16lbs 10oz and third place went to Mike Hosgood with 15lbs2oz. Kennick Flyfishers travelled to Hawkridge Reservoir on the edge of the Quantock Hills for the latest round of the Snowbee Top Rod Competition. 15 anglers caught 56 fish for a total weight of 140lbs. Top rod on the day was John Hern from Exeter with a weight of134lbs 1oz for his five fish limit with Mike Steer taking second spot with 12lbs 15oz and Gerry Scutt and Jeremy Summers tying for third with 12lbs 10oz.
The best fish of the day went to Jeremy Summers from Sidmouth, a fine catch of 4lbs. Fish were found all around the lake with the lodge bank being the most productive in the cool sunny conditions. Successful tactics were a floating line with the best flies being Diawl Bachs and leaded nymphs.
